Here is a view you don’t see every day for sure. I started to chase this train from home and on my way here, I decided to do a video from under the train. I set the cam down and let it do its thing while I was safely away from the tracks. I didn’t notice untill after the video was done that I had the camera crooked. sorry about that. For those who are interested, the third loco that goes over is Union Pacific 1996 and this once again a supprise to me just like it was last time at the same crossing. This is at the Aliso Cyn. Rd. grade crossing in Acton, Ca.

So I had a shot at creating my own version of this.
Here’s another tip: Don’t use a crap camera.

Look, nobody’s MAKING you watch either these trains or the videos.
Please keep your insidious comments to yourself, in the future.

If you want to make a video like this, there’s a very simple test to see if the camera is too big. If it reaches over the top of the rail while lying on the tie, chances are it’ll get smashed.
How you prevent it from falling over, well. The only thing I can think of is to make sure you’ve got a few bricks you can hold it in place with.

yeah, I know…but as a railroader it’s been pounded into our heads, with good reason, that when you’re around live tracks things can and do happen. it’s the little things that quickly become the big things that will hurt you.

There is actually very little risk. He was a safe distance away when the train passed, he only left his camera there. If the camera gets busted, that sucks, but nobody’s hurt.

wow… who waists their time to look at trains??
ahhh not so fun.. kinda gay if u ask me …

As cool as this video is, this is a very, very dangerous thing to be doing. It’s one thing to get up close and personal with a freight train, but to see the damn thing “running”over the camera is taking your life in your own hands.

i just did this yesterday twice and the train knocked my camera over. Luckily it didn’t get crushed or anything. It was only worth $20. If you do this use a small cheap camera.
I also discovered a way to keep the camera from moving. I am going to try it today.

I know, I really liked how the video turned out too, completely accidental LOL.

I kinda like that the camera is crooked. It seems to add a bit to the “artsy” effect.
