No. You can get apple care but it’s not the same as insurance you can get on a normal phone.

and the plastic back becuase metal drops the calls sometimes

the reason for the plastic back is because of all the extra antennas in the phone…and the metal back would interfere with the signal

I think the new iphone 3g is overall much better than the original iphone. However, it’s cheaper because that’s how technology goes. You pay a premium when you buy a first generation device because the companies need to pay for the research that went into the device. Down the line they don’t need to do this anymore and therefor can charge the customer less.
